Position Title: Front Counter Associate / Piercing Apprentice
Location: SLO Piercing, San Luis Obispo
Customer Service Excellence
Experience in a customer-facing role, ideally within the retail or service industry.
Strong interpersonal skills with a focus on creating a welcoming and professional environment for clients.
Ability to handle high-stress or busy periods with calm and efficiency.
Interest in Body Art and Piercing
A demonstrated passion for body piercing, body modification, or related fields.
Eagerness to learn and commit to the art and techniques of body piercing over the long term.
Basic knowledge of jewelry types, materials, and aftercare is a plus.
Professional Demeanor and Presentation
A professional appearance aligned with SLO Piercing’s standards.
Ability to communicate effectively and respectfully with a diverse clientele.
Willingness to receive feedback constructively to grow and improve in both customer service and technical skills.
Commitment to Health and Safety Standards
Understanding of sanitation, sterilization, and hygiene practices required in a piercing environment.
Willingness to complete required health and safety training as part of the apprenticeship.
Familiarity with cross-contamination prevention techniques.
Plus: Current Bloodborne Pathogen certification, CPR, and First Aid training.
Fine Jewelry and Gemstone Knowledge
Plus: Experience with fine jewelry, gemstones, and high-quality body jewelry.
Plus: Ability to advise clients on jewelry options, materials, and custom orders.
Photography and Social Media Skills
Basic photography skills for capturing high-quality images of jewelry and piercings for client reference and promotional use.
Familiarity with social media platforms (Instagram, Facebook, TikTok) to engage with the piercing community and promote studio services.
Plus: Experience with content creation, including photo editing or basic design skills.
Organizational and Time Management Skills
Ability to multitask and stay organized, especially during busy hours.
Strong attention to detail for managing appointments, paperwork, and client communications.
Punctual and reliable, with a commitment to adhering to studio protocols, including arrival times and attendance policies.
Tech-Savvy and Adaptable
Basic knowledge of scheduling software and point-of-sale (POS) systems.
Ability to quickly adapt to new software or systems used for inventory, client management, and scheduling.
Long-Term Commitment and Growth Mindset
Interest in a career as a professional body piercer with a commitment to a long-term role at SLO Piercing.
Openness to ongoing education and professional development.
Willingness to work through a structured apprenticeship with mentorship and hands-on training.
Certification: Current Bloodborne Pathogen certification, CPR, and First Aid training.
Professional Training: Completion of Fakir Intensives or attendance to the Association of Professional Piercers Conference.
Jewelry and Gemstones: Familiarity with fine jewelry, gemstones, and high-quality body jewelry.
Second language: Spanish and American Sign Language are preferred.
Photography and Social Media: Proficiency in photography and social media for promoting piercings, jewelry, and the studio.
Sanitation and Cross-Contamination: Advanced knowledge of sterilization procedures and cross-contamination prevention.
